Knowing how to use social media for marketing begins with knowing which social media sites are hot right now and be prepared to make adjustments as they lose favor – and, they will. If possible, set up accounts with all of them and keep them active at least once a day.  No matter which you choose, these social media sites create loyalty and cement relationships between you and your customers. You will be notified that someone wants to follow you and you can accept or reject.

With Twitter, you need to set up a profile and then “tweet” when you have anything that may be of interest to tell those who choose to watch or “follow” you. 

Facebook allows you to post directly from your website without rewriting and create comments for all others to see.  Facebook has a search engine that seeks out specific words and leads people to your “wall”.

Flickr is a photo media site where you establish a site of your own and upload all the photos that may be of interest.  Flickr is excellent for creating a link on Facebook or twitter so that your customers are able to see the photos without downloading them.

At first, add anyone who wants to be your friend or follower but that needs to change as soon as possible.  Check all profiles and see if those who have asked to be your friend share some of the same or similar interests either with you or in your product. 

There is absolutely no use in knowing how to use social media for marketing if you don’t actually “use” it.  That means you must actually interact as often as possible with your friends and followers.  At minimum, you need to be answering them and posting interesting comments on every single social media site where you have an account at least three to four times a day.  Marketing is a constant job not a one-time post. 

Word of warning, once you know how to use social media for marketing, and gain some experience in the simple posts, avoid being trapped into believing that you can now use a hard selling technique or asking people to ask others to buy from you.  If your followers trust you and get to know you, they will do that without your request.  When it comes to advertizing, knowing how to use social media for marketing is a huge step for increasing your product sales or affiliate sales.
